NPA Violence Continues

Communist Terrorists (CTs) in the Bicol region continue with their terrorism scheme with the recent liquidation activities in Albay and Sorsogon.

A report to Maj. Gen. Roy V. Kyamko, AFP SOLCOM chief, from Brig. Gen. Santiago J. Prejido, commanding general of Philippine Army 9th Infantry Brigade, stated that in Irosin, Sorsogon SPO3 Jaime Fugen Y Fortes while fetching water in Sitio Cavite, Bgy. Carriedo, about 1.5 kilometers from the municipal police station, at 6 00 a m. last January 15 was gunned down by more or less five communist terrorists belonging to Kilusang Larangang Gerilya or KLG 80.

The fatality, who was unarmed, was hit in the head and sustained multiple gunshot wounds in the body causing his instantaneous death. The CT ransacked his house and carted away his issued M16 rifle, a .38 caliber revolver and several magazines for armalite rifle loaded with rounds of ammunitions. Recovered from the scene of incident were thirteen rounds of empty shells for caliber .45 pistol, two empty shells and six rounds of live ammunitions for armalite rifle.

The rescuing policemen brought the victims body to Irosin District Hospital for autopsy.

In Ligao City, more or less eight armed communist terrorists liquidated Rudy Berdin y Ita and Eduardo Wales, both residents of Sitio Lobos, Bgy. Pinamaniquian. They were on their way home on January 15, at 8:00 p.m. when fired upon by the perpetrators in Sitio Montelilian, Bgy. Pandan, on suspicion that they are military informers. Both suffered multiple gunshot wounds in their bodies.

Meanwhile, Maj. Gen. Jose B. Broso, SOLCOM spokesman revealed that aside from their continuous destruction of vital facilities, extortion and other culture of violence, there were six victims of SPARU in four days from January l2 to 15, 2003 in Albay and Sorsogon provinces. The barangay chairman of Peņafrancia in Daraga, Albay suffered multiple gunshot wounds but survived and was confined in the hospital. The other fatalities were: Martin Sasota, Libon, Albay, January 12, Edgardo O. Ocfemia, Guinobatan, Albay on January 13, and the latest victims were those in Ligao City and Irosin, Sorsogon.

Gen. Kyamko called on civilians to work with the AFP/PNP troops in curbing these acts of terrorism. The use of communication technology by text messages thru cell phones will be of big help to the military and police in tipping-off the presence of this terrorist in the locality, said Kyamko
