Red Tide Update

Mandaon and Milagros waters in the province of Masbate and Juag Lagoon in Matnog, Sorsogon together with other identified areas throughout the country remain under the shellfish gathering ban with the continued presence of the red tide toxin.

The Red Tide Task Force or the Inter-Agency Committee on Environmental Health however has cleared Sorsogon Bay in Sorsogon province together with areas in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao as free from the toxic red tides.

Acetes spp. or "alamang" from the tide affected areas are not safe for human consumption, fish, squids, shrimps and crabs are safe for human consumption provided they are fresh and are washed thoroughly, with the gills and intestines removed, before cooking.
