Rape Suspect Bolts Jail Is Recaptured

Virac, Catanduanes - Elements of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) last week foiled an alleged plan of an escaped rape suspect to wreak vengeance on his accuser in Viga town.

The PNP provincial command sent out a flash alarm to all units in the province last Jan. 25 after one Rodolfo Abalos, 25 to 30 years old, of small build, short haired, and his body peppered with tattoos and scars, escaped from the Catanduanes Provincial Jail at 7:30 A.M. of Jan. 24.

The escapee, who is facing a criminal charge for sexual abuse, reportedly vaulted over the low concrete wall at the back of the jail compound just after he was ordered by the guards to dispose of garbage.

With his escape routes via the ferry ports in Virac and San Andres already under guard by lawmen, Abalos allegedly made his way to his native town of Viga to avenge his incarceration on the complainant. An alert team composed of PNP and BJMP personnel, however, scuttled his plan to seek revenge and promptly put him back behind bars.

Meanwhile, Bato police recently arrested a man charged of rape before the Regional Trial Court in Pili, Camarines Sur. It is now arranging the transportation of Alfredo Saban, accused of forcible abduction with rape in Bula town, to Camarines Sur where he will face the charges filed before RTC Branch 33.
