The Telecommunications Office (TelOf) in Bicol has finished the installation of 25 telephone lines in Barangay Colakling in Lupi town in
Camarines Sur during the first week of January.
Engr. Rolando Borbo, TelOf Bicol regional director, said that 23 lines are now fully subscribed and that subscribers can call and be called anytime.
Borbo added that the two remaining telephone lines are to be extended to the Lupi town proper based on the request of Mayor Matamorosa.
He also said that there are now some 200 operational telephone lines in
Canaman town as well as another existing 400 telephone lines in Ragay town,
all in Camarines Sur.
The project is under the National Telephone Program Phase II-1.
Borbo also bared that the bill creating the Department of Information and Communications Technology is now with the Technology Working Committee.
Revised February 13 last year, the bill if approved will absorb the following agencies and institutions; National Computer Center under the Office of the President, and all offices, services, divisions, units and
personnel of the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) with functions and responsibilities dealing with communications.
The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) and the Philippine Postal Corporation will also be attached to the Department of Information and
Communications Technology. Its main function among others is to ensure the provision of strategic, reliable and cost-efficient information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure, systems and resources as instruments for nation building and global competitiveness.
