Naga Police Alert On Any Terrorist Activities

NAGA CITY - This city, popularly referred to as the Heart of Bicol, is safe from terroristic activities, city chief of police supt. Francisco Bergonio Peñaflor, Jr. assured members of the Naga City Peace and Order Council (POC) during its monthly meeting held at the Sangguniang Panglungsod session hall over the weekend.

Peñaflor said that with the declaration of Naga City as a zone of peace many years ago, the city police has been always ready and prepared for any eventuality that would disturb the city’s peace and order situation.

He said it will be hard for the terrorists to penetrate the eagle-like watchfulness of his selected policemen fielded in strategic places in the city particularly the mountain barangays of Pacol and Carolina.

Supt. Peñaflor issued the statements amidst the alleged plan by the New People’s Army (NPA) to bomb the DWRB-Radyo ng Bayan Bldg., here, which also houses the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Camarines Sur provincial office.

This will be suicidal on their (rebels) part, Peñaflor said. "Probably its only a ploy and the rebels’ target, if its true would probably be the Radyo ng Bayan transmitter bldg., at Brgy. Fabrica in Bula, Camarines Sur.

Peñaflor bared at the meeting that he will reactivate the "Cops on Bikes" patrol for police visibility. "The city PNP office already acquired 10 mountain bikes for the purpose and the cops-on-bikes will roam the city streets night and day."

"The members of the Cops-on-Bikes are well trained in times of emergencies," Peñaflor added.
