Traffic Violators Will Be Apprehended

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) in Bicol has caught and fined some 1,123 violators of traffic rules and regulations in December last year.

Atty. Ramon Roco, LTO Bicol regional director, said that traffic enforcers apprehended some 259 violators in this city, 213 at Daet, 200 in Naga City, 191 in Goa, Camarines Sur, 137 in Sorsogon City, 48 in Guinobatan, Albay; 32 in Tabaco City, 24 in Virac, Catanduanes; 14 in Masbate and 5 in Irosin, Sorsogon. The LTO maintains district offices in said localities.

Majority of the violations were on obstruction of traffic, followed by driving without registration while the rest involved reckless driving, out of line operations, baggage more than regular capacity, prohibited parking, and driving in slippers or sleeveless shirts.

Roco said that under its law enforcement function, a total of 21 vehicles were impounded by LTO regular agents and special deputized agents in December 2002.

The LTO regional office also released 26 vehicles that were able to pay the penalties as well settled 676 cases.

The LTO also reported that there were 49 lost or stolen during the period in the region.

Roco said the LTOs continuing drive against traffic rules and regulations violators aims to effectively establish a safe and comfortable land based transportation system through a competent and responsive bureaucracy.
