NPAs Attack Outpost, 3 Policemen Dead

SORSOGON City - Three policemen and a teenage by-stander were killed when a jeepload of communist terrorists believed to be members of the New Peoples Army (NPA) raided a police community center in Gubat town, Sorsogon Friday night.

In a report to Chief Supt. Rodolfo Tor, Bicol PNP director, Supt Jose Arne de los Santos, Sorsogon police director, identified the fatalities as SPO2 Danilo Doctama, SPO2 Albino Cadag, SPO3 Emesto Ebrada, and the civilian by-stander identified as 14 year-old Ryrnond Tan.

Tor in a statement to the media condemned the killing that involved a civilian casualty and ordered the Sorsogon PNP "to leave no stone unturned until the perpetrators are apprehended dead or alive."

De los Santos said, initial investigation disclosed that the three policemen have just finished their dinner, while the civilian victims were watching television inside the kababayan center located at Gubat public market at about 8:15 in the evening when the five heavily armed men arrived and parked the service vehicle behind the police outpost.

According to witnesses, the rebels who were clad in fatigue top uniform and shorts fired at the policemen with M-16 rifles killing the three and the teenager instantly.

De los Santos said the communist rebels were able to cart away an M-16 armalite rifle before they withdrew to a barangay outside the town proper.

The provincial police director said responding police were from the 508th police mobile force from the town’s police station located some 300 meters away and members of the 2nd Infantry Battalion (IB)
